New eye on design - Architecture

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Hello wonderbabes of the digiscrapworld!

I’m back here with more out of the box inspiration and please read on, with some surprises also! I hope you loved the previous post I have made - we did get inspired by jewelry!

This time, it’s a whole different approach! It’s something I adore = modern architecture! I really admire those architects that have a view, a concept, something different that stand out. I like it for home’s, but I even like it more when it’s public buildings, because they are for all of us and we can enjoy these structures, from the outside and the inside. So on a magic websurfing moment, I found this building:

 dierendonckblancke architecture

This building can be found in Avelgem (Belgium) and is a centre for the community which houses a theatre , a youth house, a pub and several rooms for gatherings of all kind. You can find more explanations in Dutch on the architecture site : Dierendonckblancke, but also some more pictures, so you can see how beautiful this building is and also it’s placement in the surroundings!

But we are here to SCRAP! So let’s go! I’ve been so inspired, I made a template based upon this picture! And I have used this template two times, with different Kim De Smet kits!

with Freckles and giggles and Be Free (click picture for credits)

With Cherish Happiness (click picture for credits)

and to top it of = I give this template as a freebie on my blog! ssshhtt it’s a secret!

So, I’d love to see how we have inspired you! Don’t be shy to show off your creations!

hugs

Vanessa

Cherish Happiness

Happy Monday everyone. Did you have a good weekend?

Mine was mainly overshadowed by the tragic events that happened in Belgium on Friday. Updates on the baby murder all are over the papers and television, and it’s hard not to think of it. I am still very much shocked and I cry every time I read or hear more about it. I can’t help it, ever since I gave birth I am extremely sensitive and emotional when I hear of the cruelties some people do to children… I can’t imagine what I would do if someone would hurt my little girl…

But luckily yesterday we had some distraction. We went swimming with Roxanne. I’m ashamed to admit it, but swimming is something we have not done often enough with her. I’m totally not a water rat myself. Although she loves it, she is still afraid to go head under, and she needs us to hold her constantly when she can’t reach the ground, even though she wears rubber armrings. But yesterday we witnessed a great milestone! After several hours in the pool, she finally dared to ’swim’ all alone! (with her rubber bands and without us holding her) We were so proud of her. We had such a great time with her yesterday. And things will even get better, because I finally managed to get a spot in the weekly swimming courses for small children or city organizes. Starting next week, she and daddy will go swimming every week. I had been trying to get a spot for over a year, so I’m very happy about this.

I promised you I’d be back today with a new kit and a coupon, so here it is. My new XL kit  ‘Cherished Happiness’

It’s jam-packed with goodies: 18 papers, over 50 elements and a complete alpha with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, punctution and special European characters.

I’m really loving the colors in this kit, and I scrapped 4 pages with it! An absolute record :) My pages are also available as quickpages:

The top right page is scrapped by my good friend and CT member Jen, aka chookie in the galleries, and the other 4 by me.

And here is some more inspiration for you:

And here is a little coupon:

I have one more thing to show you. Madame Mim is guest designer at Scrapartist this month, and she has released a beautiful new kit called Best Friends Forever

Here is my page with it:

On the photo are my dd and my cousin’s nephew on their first play date. Those two are quite something together. They spent the entire afternoon screaming, laughing, making funny faces and giggling, both dressed as princesses. Oh, and MOONING. ROFL. They both seem to have a passion for that, haha.

Have a great week!

Baby murder in Dendermonde

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

I’m just sick to my stomach…Ever since I heard the news yesterday, my thoughts are constantly with the victims of this terrible crime that happened yesterday… A 20 yrs old man forced his way into a children’s daycare center in Dendermonde and attacked the babies and toddlers with a knife, with the intention of killing them all. Tears well up in my eyes as I’m typing this… This is just too sick for words… A nine months old baby, a six months old baby and one of the nurses were killed, and lots of others are severly injured…. A couple of babies are still fighting for their lives…. I just cannot understand somebody could do something as horrible as that. How can someone harm such pure, little, helpless, innocent human beings? And then when I think about the toddlers that witnessed this massacre, how terrified they must have been… How will this infect their lives?

My heart goes out to the families of this children, their lives will never be the same again…

I feel so sad to witness the world grow uglier every day… I’m a parent myself, is this the world we have to bring up our children in? What will be next? I’m already overprotective when it concerns my child, but what more can we do to protect our children? This could have happened at my daughter’s school, who would have prevented it? And WHY? Why little children?!

If you’re reading this, please send your positive thoughts and prayers towards the victims and their families….

And if it’s any comfort, the murderer was caught. He doesn’t cooperate with the police at all, but he will get his punishment. But somehow that doesn’t comfort me at all… No punishment will ever make up for what he did….
